I adore photographing this mom and son (and grandparents of course)! It’s now their annual tradition when I come visit my hometown each Fall. These special family portraits capture all the LOVE + JOY they have for one another. They win me over with their big smiles and laughter. Can’t wait until Fall 2024!
I always love photographing in my hometown of DC. And to photograph in the famous Bishop’s Garden at the National Cathedral - it is always memorable. And with this fantastic family, the experience was a total home run! Sweetness, sister love, fun and memories made. You can’t ask for anything better!
When I lived in Washington, DC in the late 2000s, I discovered and learned to adore Huntley Meadows Park located in Alexandria, VA. When this Northern Virginia family told me that they wanted to meet me there for their family session, I jumped at the chance. It has boardwalks, meadows, lush greenery and low-key hiking trails. And with this crew, we had an absolute blast!
There’s nothing like brothers. One moment they are jumping on each other…wrestling each other to the ground. The next moment they are hugging on each other, laughing and smiling…and maybe threatening each other with wedgies. If they get in a fight, they surely get over it quickly. I have photographed this brother duo for over 5 years and they have always been consistent with how they show their love for one another. I hope they hold onto this intense relationship into adulthood. It makes me smile for sure.
I’ve known this woman, a fellow photographer, for years. She’s been photographing portraits professional but, like all busy professionals, she has rarely gotten her own family (with herself included) captured. Now, a mother of 3, she got emotional when she saw her newest family portraits for the first time. Through seeing these portraits, it really hit her that she was a mom (for real!)…and these precious 3 kids’ mom. Now, she can proudly display her family portraits around her home that showcase their entire happy family. For this, she is forever grateful.
Siblings have a special bond - laughter, smiles, love and deep memories with one another. They are so lucky to have one another - a bond that will carry them throughout their lives. Even more, it is a beautiful relationship for their parents to witness. Its a wonderful aspect of a family to cherish now and always.
Its a funny thing when you have known someone since high school and then 25 years later - their oldest child is a freshman at that same high school. That’s the situation I found myself to much amusement. Are we that old already? Really? Thankfully we are that much wiser and with a whole lot of character and life experienced. For this fantastic woman and mom, she has a wonderful marriage to a true partner and 3 children to be proud of. She is living the fabulous life filled with love, connection and adventure. She has so much to be thankful for.
I love my DC families and this one is EXTRA special!!! I met this great family years ago at a July 4th crab party on the Chesapeake Bay. Now, when visiting my hometown of DC, I see them in the Fall to document their family….especially to photograph the evolution of their pride and joy…their handsome son. This year I met them at DC’s Franciscan Monastery - the family’s special request and a location I have never visited. This setting was so memorable - a true gem in our nation’s capital. An absolute perfect location for this gem of a family.
I've known the mom in this family for decades - we went to the same high school. But I've never known her in her role as a mother. She is not only a kind and fun friend but she is a fantastic and present mother to her 3 beautiful children and a true partner to her fabulous husband. I'm so glad that when I returned to my hometown of Washington, DC, I got to join this family for all their family fun as well as captured all the laughs and smiles. Memorable photographs to last a lifetime.
